Swagonomics: Maximizing Your Marketing Impact with Memorable Promotional Products
July 21, 2023Welcome to Our First Copycats Blog! Finally!
For a number of years, we have talked about writing a Copycats blog. We have discussed ideas but we never went ahead and actually wrote the blog. Until now!
Our goal is to be informative, and relevant and to also give you a little history of our company and introduce you to the cast of characters who make up Copycats. We would like our blog to be interesting for our clients, not a cure for insomnia, so we ask our readers to let us know what you would find interesting. Please comment below or shoot us an email!
A little history about Copycats
This year we are celebrating our 39th year in the printing business. During the past 4 decades as the world has changed so has Copycats.
When we opened our doors in 1984 as a small copy shop on the upper east side of Manhattan digital printing did not exist. Desktop computers were rare and copy machines that automatically printed to both sides of the paper were not yet available. There were no fax machines and cellular phones were mainly for car use and were huge contraptions used by only a few early adopters. Email?? Not something available to the general public. It is amazing to think about the changes that have occurred in our world since that first day when we opened our doors!
As the technology evolved, so did Copycats. When digital printing was introduced, we were the first retail shop in Manhattan to install Xerox’s first digital production printer, the Docutech. And as the internet became a part of life, we were one of the first retail shops in our city to accept orders via email.
We initially grew by adding retail shops on the Upper Eastside. As time progressed and our company grew, we realized that the printing work we all loved to do and the work at which we excelled was print projects for institutions and businesses. Rather than adding locations we eventually consolidated everything in a midtown office building. This single production shop was instrumental in consolidating the staff as a well-functioning team.
With the passing years, we added and diversified services.
Sometimes these additions were due to advances in technology, sometimes these services came to us when we purchased another business and sometimes, we added services in response to our clients needs and requests.
Among these new printing services were direct mail, large format printing including posters, banners and displays, and we added many more binding options including perfect binding and hard cover binding. In more recent years, we started producing and installing window and wall graphics, including vinyl cut letters and other types of signage. This includes the window coverings for permanent storefronts, as well as the temporary signage and graphics for large events. During the pandemic, there was a need for floor graphics so we added that service. We also offer a very wide variety of custom promotional products. In other words, if you don’t see it just ask!
We are very proud of both the skills and the longevity of our staff. They average over 13 years with us and a number of them came to us with prior printing experience. Over 40% of our staff has 18 years or more years tenure at Copycats and four of our crew have been with Copycats for over 30 years.
So that is Copycats in a nutshell!
